Discover Drake Bay: Costa Rica’s Wildlife Paradise

Drake Bay, Costa Rica- A Gateway to Nature

Tucked away on the Pacific side of the Osa Peninsula, Drake Bay is one of Costa Rica’s most biologically rich destinations. This remote region is an ecological hotspot where lush tropical rainforest collides with the warm Pacific Ocean. This mixture offers a rare blend of biodiversity both on land and in the ocean. National Geographic has called the Osa “the most biologically intense place on Earth.” Though it covers only about 700 square miles, the Osa Peninsula is home to over 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity. Drake Bay is a gateway to some of the planet’s most extraordinary wildlife experiences.

Where marine life comes alive

Beyond its pristine beaches and wild jungle, the ocean around Drake Bay is equally breathtaking. The surrounding waters host over 25 species of cetaceans, including humpbacks that migrate from both hemispheres. They migrate here to breed and give birth in tropical waters. Our seasonal Humpback Whale Watching Tour is an intimate, ethical and wonderful opportunity to see these gentle giants. Drake Bay is also one of the few places where guests can encounter five local species of dolphins year-round. When weather permits we offer a Private Offshore Dolphin Tour that ventures 30+ miles offshore to witness thousands of dolphins foraging alongside pelagic birds and yellowfin tuna. Offshore waters teem with rare marine life and stunning pelagic birds, making it a photographer’s dream and a naturalist’s paradise.
